This is me

Hello blog world! You may have seen me around before but this is my first ever very own blog! I have blogged for other people in the past and I still will. But sometimes everything has to fit into a box, or follow a certain theme. Sometimes I don’t want to fit into a box, sometimes I just want to write. Not always about anything in particular, just whatever comes to mind at the time.

So back to the point, the big writing at the top of the page, “This is me”. My name is Amy and I live in Sheffield, England. I have glaucoma which is where pressure builds up inside the eye, which then puts pressure on the optic nerve at the back of the eye. if the optic nerve gets damaged then you can lose some or all of your sight. So the idea is to keep the pressure down to a nice level, I had surgery for this when the drops stopped working for me many years ago now. So i am very lucky that not all of my sight was lost. it could be a lot better, but it could be a heck of a lot worse. I have had sight problems my whole life because of one thing or another, but the glaucoma kicked in when i was a teenager and deteriorated when i was twenty three years old. i have been registered as severely sight impaired ever since then.

I am currently volunteering for a sight loss charity which i absolutely love. i have been there for two years now. It has become a massive part of my life and i really don’t know where i would be without it. I have made some truly amazing friends there.

If you don’t already know me, you will learn a lot more about me as the blog goes on. So I guess you will just have to keep coming back to find out more. It would be great if you did. Very much appreciated. As this is my first blog flying solo, I am open to any feedback or advice… as long as it’s friendly! I also want to know in an accessibility kind of way, if you find the fonts or anything like that difficult then please let me know. I want to do this right and I want it to do well. So please let me know what you think?

I’ll speak to you soon 🙂 xx
