At the beginning of this year (2024) I joined a fabulous choir called Rock Choir. Every Wednesday evening we meet up and sing some amazing pop and rock songs, all well known ones. Each term we learn three new songs which is very exciting. A few weeks ago a really exciting opportunity was announced to us. This was to perform at my local radio station, Hits Radio South Yorkshire. This is my favourite radio station and I was desperate to be part of this so I signed up stright away. I was thrilled when I got accepted and I was offered a place. I have been on the radio a few times in the past and absolutely loved it. I wasn’t really sure if we would be on the radio today, or just performing for guests of the radio station, either way I was in!

This morning when I arrived at the Hits Radio building I was so excited!!! I have been listening to this station for absolutely years now, it was Hallam FM until very recently. With my love of radio this was a dream come true. When I arrived, all of the other choir members were waiting outside and everybody said hello to me. When it was time for us to go in, we had a bit of a briefing and then we all took our places in our four choir sections, bass, lower alto, upper alto and soprano. We had a bit of time to have a run through of a few of the songs before it was show time.

Today is Cash for Kids day and Hits Radio have been raising money for this wondeful charity. This year’s appeal is to raise enough money to give children a hot meal over the summer holidays. So many children in South Yorkshire don’t have that and Cash for Kids want to help as many children as possible. Today the radio station were hosting a Big Breakfast and our job was to sing to all of the guests as they arrived. Our choir leader asked if it was my first performance today, when I said yes everybody clapped and cheered for me. It was really lovely of everyone. While we were singing there were a few people around taking photos and filming us, I felt like I belonged.

I also got a little bit star struck at times because I got to meet my favourite radio presenter. :/d It really has been the perfect first performance and I hope for many more that are just as good.
